Pharmaceutical and Biopharmaceutical R&D

One of the graduate program’s main objectives is the integration of interdisciplinary expertise in R&D in pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical products. To this end, the program counts with the collaboration of researchers from different areas of biotechnology, ranging from biochemistry, microbiology, molecular biology and biochemical engineering to analytical chemistry, medicinal chemistry and proteomics.

All researchers have both appropriate individual research labs, as well as multi-user laboratory facilities. Consequently, nucleated research groups are currently carrying out research in target definition, assay development, biochemical screening, drug-target analysis by x-ray crystallography and bio-process development.

Due to the recent viral outbreaks, several projects target precisely viral diseases like Zika and Covid-19. Additionally, the development of MABs and MAB-fragments for the treatments of cancer-related diseases has received due to its impact on the local Brazilian biotech industry special interest.
